The proposed work

For their monumental project “Build(dingue)”, Anne Donzé and Vincent Chagnon propose to build a “glass district” of nine buildings. Each building is made of blown glass cubes, placed one on the top of the other like a tower of boxes or ‘apartments’ in which small everyday scenes are portrayed in pâte de verre.

Structures that can be dismounted and rearranged, these buildings reflect a theme that has constantly been part of the duo’s journey together: the voyeurism in transparency, but also the call to be open to oneself and to others.

The work will be created with the Foundation’s support over the next nine months, during which the duo will record their experiences in a log book. It will be possible to follow the creative process on the Foundation website from July 2014 onwards.

Nine months later, in January 2015, the work will be unveiled to the public at the Collection gallery in Paris.

Portrait of the duo

Vincent, a glassblower, trained in Quebec and the Czech Republic, while Anne, a pâte de verre specialist and creator of contemporary jewellery, was educated at the CERFAV (Centre Européen de Recherches et de Formation aux Arts Verriers) in Vannes-le-Châtel and the Escola Massana in Barcelona, where she studied contemporary jewellery.

Together, they have created several collections of narrative ‘packaging’ with amusing shapes and titles, which send out a critical message about excessive consumption in society.

In these collections, the container and its contents are one and the same: Vincent blows a glass bubble into which Anne inserts a pâte de verre sculpture while it is still hot. They have achieved their ambition to combine their respective know-how and each has learned the techniques used by the other.
